Brazil’s Uniao Quimica starts production of Sputnik V vaccine

MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) -- Uniao Quimica, one of Brazil’s leading pharmaceutical companies, has starter production of the Sputnik V vaccine, and plans to file for emergency authorization together with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) this week, the vaccine’s Twitter account said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Uniao Quimica started production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Brazil in January 2021. RDIF provided all the necessary documentation and materials. RDIF, Uniao Quimica will apply for an emergency use authorization for Sputnik V in Brazil this week,” the statement read.

The RDIF will supply 10 million doses of Sputnik V in January–March 2021, with deliveries starting in January. The company and the fund are starting vaccination of Brazilians, and the first 20 Brazilians that work in the Russian embassy are already undergoing the procedure.

“Russia’s RDIF and Brazil’s Uniao Quimica will propose to all BRICS nations to create a task force to fight COVID-19 and to cooperate on vaccines,” the vaccine’s account said.
